Trip to the Dr.'s Office

After months of trying to get health insurance, choosing a plan and selecting a primary doctor, we were approved and I finally got the kiddo's an appointment for their Well Check-Up's last week.

I knew Sawyer was doing fine. He's been healthy since birth. And, although Ruby has been healthy too, I worry about her more because of her first week out in the world with us... (First Week, Part 1 & First Week, Part 2) She hadn't been seen by a doctor since she was three weeks old and I was starting to get anxious for an "expert" to tell me she is developing as she should.

Sawyer's Stats:

Weight - 29lbs
Height - 36.75"

He's in the 90th% for height and 50th% for weight.

Ruby's Stats:

Weight - 17lbs
Height - 27.5"

She's in the 90th% for height and 50th% for weight. She's grown 8" and gained about 12lbs since birth. Mama's milk works wonders :-)

The doctor said my kiddo's are tall and skinny... Skinny? I don't think so... I think there are some extremely chunky babies out there throwing the percentages off a bit because my kiddo's are NOT skinny!

Ruby's belly button is doing great. The doctor said the opening to the hernia is very small now and that as she continues to grown the extra skin will go away. Her belly button should be completely normal! Thank goodness!

Both the kiddo's got shots. We did Sawyer's first and I held him in my lap. He screamed OUCH, MOMMY THAT HURTS!!! It was pretty terrible. He didn't want to band aids, even though they were cool blue camouflaged ones, and kept ripping them off. While I was trying to distract him and calm him down, the nurse gave Ruby hers. She squawked just a bit, but calmed right down. She got pink camo band aids and once Sawyer saw his matched hers he thought they were cool.

All in all, it was a good appointment! I'm very happy to have insurance and two healthy, BEAUTIFUL children :-)

Day's of Sawyer's Life 11/24-12/18/2009

A quick Day's update for Sobo!

We had a check up for him last week and he weighs 29.5lbs and is 34 & 3/4" tall!!! Seriously, this boy is growing like crazy! He's in the 95th percentile for weight and height.



I've been waiting for this to happen...




Too cute! He stayed asleep getting him out of the chair and into his crib. He was OUT!!!


Sawyer is still talking up a storm. I am so impressed with how well he enunciates his words. I don't think he gibber-gabbers at all; I truly believe you would be able to understand him even if you didn't spend a lot of time with him!


He continues to be a loving and sweet big brother to Ruby. He is definitely in the terrible two's and gets a spanking from time to time... But for the most part he is a really great little boy and he brings so much joy to Jon and mine's life :-)

Day's of Sawyer's Life 08/16/2009 - 11/23/2009

It's been three months since my last Day's update for Sawyer... I have no idea where to start with all the things he has done over the last three months... Everyday he does something new. Watching him grown up has been absolutely amazing!

Sawyer is 1 year and 7 months as of this week (19 Months). Jon and I started writing down all the words he can say and I stopped at about 200. Yeap, TWO HUNDRED!!! Sawyer speaks in sentences. We'll ask him a question, like "Sawyer, do you want to go outside?" and he responds "Yes, I do." He also says things like "I want up.", "I want down." And of course "Mine" is a word he likes to use often! He knows all of his Texas family members names and says most of them well. He also knows all the dogs names. When someone comes over and knocks on door, he shouts "Come In!". This is one of my favorite things he does. It's SO cute!

Other cute stuff: When Sawyer toots, he'll smile at me and hold his booty and say "Noises". When he falls down he says "booty hurts". When I'm nursing Ruby he says "Ruby, hungry, milk". He probably says "I hungry" the most through out the day! When we put Sawyer down for a nap and he doesn't go to sleep right away, sometimes he'll yell "Mommy, Daddy, I stuck" (as in stuck in his crib)! We're still waiting to hear "I love you!". I'm guessing he'll say it to Ruby first :-)

Also, Sawyer finally says "Cracker". For the longest time he would call them cookies and now he knows the difference!

Sawyer likes to play with his animal puppets. He makes them kiss each other!

One day couple weeks ago, Sawyer was playing on the floor with a car and with each roll back and forth he counted one, two, three, four! I didn't even know he could count! Jon and I had been saying numbers and counting to him, but he hadn't done it himself. Now, he can count up to 7. He says all the numbers up to 10, but I haven't heard him say them in order passed 7.

I'm also thinking he might be teething again... I'm not sure when the 2nd molars come in... His diapers have been HORRENDOUS, seriously clear the room stinky, just awful! He's very irritable, which could also have something to do with the Terrible Twos. He's chewing on his fingers again and the other day he gagged himself and threw-up chunks of Hot Dog and Mac-N-Cheese! Pretty nasty...

Sawyer is SO sweet to Ruby. Amazingly sweet. Couldn't ask for it to have gone any better sweet. I hope his kind and tender nature towards her lasts!

Sawyer likes to wear these Skidder shoes he got from Nannie. He calls them his boots!


The other day I got Sawyer up from his nap and brought him out to the living room to cuddle with me on the couch. He crawled down to the floor, curled up by his toys and slept on the floor for about a half hour. It was pretty funny! :-)


He is very attached to Jon right now. It's very sweet, but kind of hurts my feelings sometimes too... Like this past Sunday we were at Chucky Cheese and Jon wanted to go play some "big boy" games. So, he passed Sawyer to me so I could hold him and Sawyer screamed, literally SCREAMED, "NO! I want Daddy!!!". I was crushed... When Jon's gone, Sawyer constantly asks for him. Usually Jon's at work, so I tell Sawyer that daddy's at work. This week when Sawyer asked where daddy was, I asked him the question back and he said "Daddy at work". He's definitely his daddy's boy right now!



He is a very happy little boy. Always wanting to play outside and copy everything his mommy and daddy do! He's non-stop, running around most of the time. But, there are times when he will just sit and be still, which is very nice! Jon and I are both really enjoying the age he is at right now :-)

Day's of Sawyer's Life 05/09-08/15/2009

Where have the last three months gone?... Even though I feel like each month has passed slowly, here I am just getting to another Sawyer Update and it's been 3 months since the last one. So many things have happened, I'm not sure where to begin...

Lets start with Sawyer's stats. The last update was in early May and he had just had his 12 month check up. He weighed 24lbs and was 29.5" tall. At his 15 month check up this week (which was a couple weeks late, he's really 15.5 months) he weighed 25.5lbs and was 33.5" tall. I don't know how he has only gained 1.5lbs in 3 months... I am not surprised that he has grown a few inches though! The kid looks like a 2 year old :-) He's in the 75th percentile for weight and 97th for height. He'll be tall like Daddy!

Seriously though, I am really surprised at Sawyer's weight (meaning I am surprised it is so low). He eats SO much! It's not like he looks chubby. He looks like a solid, healthy boy. Here is a usual breakfast: 1 banana, 1 or possibly 2 scrambled eggs, 1 piece of wheat toast, and juice or milk. He eats it all and will ask for whatever I still have left on my plate... An eating machine!!! I mentioned to Jon this week that we should video tape Sawyer eating a banana. It is hilarious and I bet he can eat a banana faster than any other 15 month old around! So, yes, I was worried that I was over feeding him and increasing his chances of being another obese child... Thankfully I am not! He is just a health boy who likes to eat!

Sawyer is talking up a storm. I won't list every word he can say, but here are the ones that are on repeat most days: Mommy, Daddy, Texas, Puppy, Kitty, Bunny, Quac Quac, Up, Down, Cup, Water, Juice, Please, Cheese, Baby, Hat, Outside, Ball, Vroom Vroom, Cookie, Book, Tweet Tweet... I'm sure there are more, but those are the ones I hear over and over. It is SO cute! He is also working on saying his name. He says "Soy"! For a couple weeks now he's been saying something that sounded like "I'm Sorry" slurred together (you'll have to imagine it because I'm not sure how to spell it out). It dawned on me tonight though that he may being saying "I'm Soy", for "I'm Sawyer". Here he is telling dad the horse says NaaAAA (however you spell what a horse says!).


Over the past couple weeks, we've been working on colors. Sawyer knows how to say orange. He'll point at an Orange (the fruit) and say orange, but that really doesn't have anything to do with the color. He can repeat colors when we ask him to, but he isn't recognizing them on his own yet. He will soon though! Here he is working on his colors by playing with cars and reading with daddy.




What else?...

Sawyer is trying so hard to communicate and I can only imagine how frustrating it must be. So, in typical toddler fashion, he'll throw himself down on the floor, arms and legs flying, all while crying without shedding any tears. I wonder where toddlers learn this? How do they know that when they're frustrated they're supposed to drop to the floor? It is a mystery... However, the more he can talk the better this will get!

I'm very interested, and nervous, to see how Sawyer will respond to his little sister. He doesn't like me to hold other kiddos. He doesn't even like it when Daddy and I cuddle. He wants to be right in the middle and says "Mommy, Mommy" over and over until we pick him up too. We've been teaching him how to say baby and that there is a baby in my tummy, but I don't think he really makes that association... I know it won't be easy at first, but I am hoping that he'll quickly learn to love and cherish his little sister :-)

Jon and I are so lucky to have Sawyer for our son. He is the best part of our day, even on the so called bad days. God truly blessed us!

My First Post w/o Pictures

This is my first post without pictures because there were no pictures to be had of this moment today. There was no one there to photograph or record the shear terror that flashed across my face and rang in my voice as I yelled "SAWYER" and ran as fast as my 32 weeks pregnant body would allow me to out the front door because not only is Sawyer able to open the front door, but now the screen door as well.

Sawyer had been running around the kitchen with Texas's leash while I was washing dishes and talking with my Aunt Karin. I noticed he had been quiet for a minute, but really didn't think anything of it... He had probably just gone upstairs and I'd finish the dishes and go get him. Then, I didn't hear his little foot steps running around upstairs either...

I walked out of the kitchen and discovered horror of horrors that Texas's leash was half in the house and half outside on the front step. I swear my heart stopped and I froze for just a moment while all kinds of awful thoughts ran threw my head. Then I sprinted, probably faster than I have moved in years, out the front door. I yelled "SAWYER" at the top of lungs. I can still hear myself calling his name in my head.

I knew just where he would go. We have a pond just outside our front door and down a little hill. He likes to watch the ducks there and we walk on the path around it to take him to the park. Luckily, I saw him right away, by a big tree, next to the pond. He saw me running toward him and looked at me, laughing, as if to say "Look at me Mommy! I'm outside!".

I can not even describe how terrifying this experience was. I have never been so scared in my life.

Thank you Lord for Texas's leash being half in/half out of the house. If it hadn't been, I would have headed upstairs to search for Sawyer. Possibly wasting precious minutes while he was strolling around outside and heading to the pond. Thank you Lord for giving Mother's our instincts to somehow know when something just isn't right. Thank you Lord for keeping my little baby safe on his adventure today. And, please Lord, although I know I will be struck by pure terror many more times in motherhood, please, please, please let the outcome be the same. Safe and Sound!

Day's of Sawyer's Life 03/13-05/08/2009

It's been awhile since I've given a complete Sawyer update... I have been a bit behind in letting my child feed himself, mostly because I'm lazy and haven't wanted to clean up the mess I knew he would make! So, just over the last few weeks I've started letting him try to eat a few things himself, mostly at breakfast and lunch. He does good with Ham & Eggs...



... And, not so good with Mama's favorite; Vanilla Yogurt, Peanut Butter, Granola and Strawberries!



Oh My Goodness! Is this little fella growing!!! He had his 1 year check-up a couple weeks ago and is doing great :-} He weighed 24lbs. and was 29.5" tall. He had another little check-up yesterday and has gained a pound and grown an inch and a half in two weeks! My oh my - No wonder the little guy sleeps SO much!

Also, he seems to have quite a few teeth coming in... He already has the top & bottom 4. Now, he has the first molars coming in on all sides, top and bottom! Surprisingly, he isn't too fussy. There have been a couple rough nights, but for the most part he is toughing it out really well!


Now, I thought of my friend Lexia and her little guy Tavish for this next phase of Sawyer developing his motor skills. Tavish is just a couple months younger than Sawyer and has just started walking... Well, Lexia, now you have CLIMBING to look forward to! WooHoo :-} Sawyer climbs onto everything he can right now. He is just tall enough to get himself up onto most household things like the couch and chairs. Lately he has started concurring desks and play tables. He get's himself up there, but he can't get down. So there is some crying and yelping, or tumbling and crashing... The next word he needs to learn is HELP!!!




Oh yes, we have a Toddler! And what a joy he is :-}

Day's of Sawyer's Life 01/09-03/12/2009

We have a walker! Right at about 10 months Sawyer started teetering around, taking a couple steps at a time and plopping down on his baby booty. Then, he would venture a few more steps in a row, sometimes pivoting around on one foot. Finally he really got the hang of it and now he is walking all over the place!


Last weekend cousin Audrey (21 months) stayed the night with us and her and Sawyer got to take their first bath together. I've always liked pictures of the little babies in the tub together, they are SO cute!


Quick little updates - He is getting a couple more bottom teeth and has been fussy for the last week or so. Once these teeth are in he'll have 8 total. He's still a hefty boy, weighing 23.5 lbs.! Also, he is mimicking sounds and words, trying to expand his limited vocabulary. Overall, he's a happy, healthy little guy :-}

Day's of Sawyer's Life 12/13/08-1/8/2009

SoBo's got all four top teeth now, but usually when he smiles you only see the bottom two. Here's one captured moment of him playing the Keyboard he got for Christmas with a couple of those top toophers showing.

Like I mentioned in the last post, he hasn't been feeling well at all... It's a cold, but it won't go away and I feel so bad for the guy. He's a trooper though and I know he is tired of not feeling good as well.

He is still crawling all over the place! And now he is climbing up all the furniture he can... Scary because of the whole falling and smashing his head on the floor thing, but also really fun! He now holds onto furniture and walks around it. We have to be quick to keep non-baby stuff out of his hands!


This morning I went to get him up from a nap and he was pushing his Diaper Holder across his crib. Normally it sits on the Right Hand side!

Sawyer can say 3 words now. He's been saying Dada and while we were in Texas he said Mama and Texas. You have to know him to know that he's saying Texas though, it's more like Tex. He'll say it whenever he sees the dog or if we ask him where Texas is. So cute!


He is such a joy and a blessing! I can hardly believe he's 8 and half months old already, time has gone by SO fast... And also, I struggle to remember him when he was so small and fragile...



Mama's craving another little baby to hold and introducing Sawyer to Big Brotherhood :-} God willing, right?...

Day's of Sawyer's Life 11/6-12/13/2008

Just look at that face! Man, the Baby looks SO sad! He's teething again and in a lot of pain! He has four teeth coming in on the top, one has broken through and the other three are close... He's going to have a toothy grin soon!
I got a bit teary eyed the other day because he looked right at Jon and said DaDa. He wasn't babbling at all, just looked right at Jon and called him by name. The pediatrician said Sawyer would be very advanced if he was already talking! Also, he's gotten very good at finding things around the house, like the Fishes, Texas and Piper. We ask him where they are and he'll look around until he finds them and then smile :-} So cute!
Full on crawling is in effect (see some semi-action shots below)! Now I can look forward to climbing! Yipeeee!!!





Sawyer has become aware of strangers. He clings on to Mom or Dad a bit and surveys the scene with a curious look on his face. Then once he decides he's comfortable he'll start smiling and playing. The stages little babies go through are so great to watch!


Since Sawyer was born, we've been trying to come up with a Nick-Name for him... There isn't really anything that is short for Sawyer... So, some friends had been calling him SoyBoy, which Jon wasn't too fond of. Then, one day, Jon shortened SoyBoy to SoBo and it stuck! He's our little SoBo :-} So cute, cuddly and beautiful! XOXOX
